[New Taipei City News] In response to the pandemic outbreak, the Eco-friendly Contractual Farming Affiliate Platform of New Taipei City has launched eco-friendly Veggie Boxes. In addition to using organic and eco-friendly vegetables and fruits from small farmers, Veggie Boxes also collect agricultural products from various counties and cities. According to each family’s different sizes and needs, four combinations and sizes of Veggie Boxes are packed, with prices ranging from NT$400 to NT$2,880, which is suitable for purchasing at home during the pandemic. People can still eat healthy without leaving home and help farmers simultaneously.

Recently the pandemic outbreak has continued, and the suspension of schools in Taiwan has led to a severe reduction in the number of vegetables used in school meals. Market restrictions or closures have also blocked access to vegetables and fruits, and farmers’ livelihoods have been greatly affected. Due to the suspension of many restaurants or fear of the pandemic, people are afraid to eat out, and their lifestyles are affected. The demand for home cooking has increased under these circumstances, and the sales performance of agricultural products on e-commerce platforms has also improved. The Agriculture Department of New Taipei City Government has cooperated with Tribal E-Shop, an Eco-friendly Contractual Farming Affiliate Platform member, to sell Veggie Boxes online. Veggie Boxes contain organic and eco-friendly vegetables; so far, about 4,000kg of fruits and vegetables have been sold. It also applies the industry’s existing packaging services and workforce to save additional costs. Veggie Boxes collect vegetables and fruits from rural areas, indigenous communities, and suburban countryside, including short-term leafy vegetables, e.g., Chinese cabbage, water spinach, and Pak-choi, as well as seasonal pumpkins, Chayote, and cabbage items. Veggie Boxes are divided into four specifications: small-family/week (NT$400), large-family/week (NT$650), small-family/4 weeks (NT$1996), and large-family/4 weeks (NT$2880). Customers can purchase according to their needs.

Wen Lee, the Commissioner of Agriculture Department, New Taipei City Government, said that in response to the rising demand for people’s livelihood under the outbreak of the pandemic, Agriculture Department has assisted the Farmer’s Association in planning “Tasty Agriculture Products Drive-through” and launched a home-cook meal set.
