When referring to Yingge District in New Taipei City, most people’s first impression is Ceramic Art and Yingge Old Street, but they are unfamiliar with Yingge agriculture and agricultural products. Wei-En Chin, a young farmer returning to his hometown, wants to introduce the farm industry in Yingge to the public in an organic way and implement the concept of organic friendly to as many people as possible.
Wei-En Chin was born in 1981; he has been an insurance man and once served as the district manager of an insurance company. He returned to Yingge last September (2019) to engage in agriculture. The farmland was originally a farm for fun after his parents retired. Wei-En Chin took over and used organic methods to grow seasonal vegetables and established his brand of “Chin Jia Yuan Organic Farm,” with a wide variety of crops (up to 20 kinds). There are common seasonal vegetables, such as spoon cabbage, Taiwanese lettuce, etc., and the recently popular superfood: Kale. Wei-En Chin also developed a variety of processed goods, such as “kale,” in addition to the standard fried eating method and the fried seaweed method, which is very popular with children. There are processed products suitable for home cooking, for example, turnip cake, pickled vegetables, fried garlic, etc. Customers can buy safe and healthy fresh organic vegetables through their Facebook fan page, contact LINE ID: Waynecoffee1027, or visit the farm in person. Chin Jia Yuan Organic Farm is next to Yingge Hope Demonstration Organic Farm. People can buy the freshest organic vegetables and talk with excellent young farmers about their farming stories and planting ideas!
Wei-En Chin said he deeply appreciates the Agriculture Department, New Taipei City Government, providing entrepreneurial counseling training courses for young farmers. Through the classes, he learned the knowledge of farming, farming-related diseases, and pests so that he could get started efficiently when he had just returned to his hometown to work as a farmer, and he passed the verification of organic transformation in just six months and joined organic farming. Wei-En Chin is more active in promoting the development of organic and local agriculture, integrating farmers in Yingge and Sangxia with agricultural resources, and plans to hold farmers’ markets, combined with the help of the Sanxia Beida Community to promote local, high-quality agricultural products. Wei-En Chin also intends to implement the concept of eco-friendly through Food and Farming Education and farm experience to encourage the development of Yingge’s organic agriculture.
Lee Wen, the Commissioner of the Agriculture Department, New Taipei City Government, said that the Department will always be the most substantial support of Young Farmers in New Taipei City. The Agriculture Department will continue to offer resources to guide young farmers and build a service platform with the “New Farm and Fishery Industry Guidance Program.” There are case counseling and real-time online Q&A service through LINE to enhance young farmers’ professional abilities, coordinate sales channels, and create opportunities for cross-industry cooperation all over Taiwan.
