A Siberian Crane arrived at Jinshan District’s Qingshui Farmland at the end of 2014; since that time, Uncle Cheng-Chun Huang and nearby farmers took advice from the Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government; they managed farmlands in an eco-friendly way without spraying pesticides, applying chemical fertilizers and herbicides, and picking up apple snails (Pomacea canaliculata) with bare hands. Peony Lotus in Qingshui is blossoming from now, June, to the end of August. Welcome to Qingshui to enjoy the beauty of Irony Lotus and support eco-friendly agricultural products.
Jinshan District’s Qingshui Farmland is located at the intersection of the estuary of the Hensi (Sulfur creek) river and the Qingshui river. It belongs to the estuary farmland type and is also the relay station of the bird migration route. Summer is the blooming season of peony lotus in Qingshui farmland. Tourists will visit to enjoy the flowers, take photos, and buy agricultural products related to eco-friendly and pesticide-free lotuses. The peony lotus flower is large and looks like a peony, with large petals that bloom all day, and the colors are pure white, pink, and white petals with red edges, etc. Because the shape is similar to the lotus seat of the Buddha, the peony lotus is regarded as the flower of Buddha worship in Thailand. The Peony lotus’ appearance of multiple petals looks wealthy and festive, like a graceful and luxurious peony flower, which is stunning. The beauty of the peony lotus, which blooms only once a year, is worth visiting and appreciating.
Wen Lee, the Commissioner of Agriculture Department, said that to consider both the benefits of farming and environmental and ecological conservation, New Taipei City now owns an eco-friendly farming area of 227.5 hectares, with 196 farms joining. Jinshan Eco-friendly Farming Program initially took Qingshui farmland as the core area. Farmers planted lotus, water bamboo shoots, sweet potatoes, and other crops in an eco-friendly way. They could apply for subsidies such as organic fertilizer or change their product to local characteristic items by joining the eco-friendly farming promotion community. The Agriculture Department launched the “Eco-friendly Contractual Farming Affiliate Platform” for people to buy safe food online, encourage more farmers to join the community of eco-friendly farming, protect the ecological environment, and increase farmers’ income.
At this time when COVID-19 is calming down, we’re in a new lifestyle living the epidemic. Strike a balance between COVID-19 prevention and tourism; take “Route 2 Taiwan” to Qingshui Farmland to watch peony lotus. The flowering period can last until the end of August.
