Tea Factory in Shimen District Keep Upgrading with Organic and Product Processing Certificates

Chang-Chi Shao, the owner of Aroma Garden in Shimen District, applied his photoelectric background to build exclusive tea processing equipment. Under the guidance of the Agriculture Department of New Taipei City Government, he obtained the first registration certificate of Primary Agricultural Products Processing Yards in Shimen District and upgraded his original tea factory to increase the value of tea products.

Chang-Chi Shao was born in 1968 and used to be engaged in the technology industry and airline ticketing business. After ending the airline agency, he contacted tea-related knowledge by chance and moved to Shimen District to operate an organic tea garden. At the beginning of farming, he started with soil improvement. He cultivated the land through slope repair, application of organic fertilizers, soybean meal, etc., but he almost violated the law because he did not understand relevant laws and regulations. Shao later participated in the training of organic farming classes and participated in Young Farm activities to interact with experienced farmers, collected various opinions, and completed the opening of Aroma Garden and the construction of tea fields. He adopted the organic farming method for cultivation and finally restored the original tea plants after four years of hard-working. Currently, the annual output of the tea garden is about 2000 kg, mainly producing white tea, black tea, and Tieh-Kuan-Yin tea, and the main buyers are from China and European markets. Chang-Chi Shao plans to apply for halal verification, recruit young farmers to join the Middle East market, and expand sales channels. In addition to developing international markets, he actively participated in domestic exhibitions and sales fairs to promote his products. At the same time, he also sold his products on New Taipei City Farmers’ Association’s online e-shopping website: Country U Box and Rakuten.

Besides understanding the field management of tea gardens, Chang-Chi Shao also established his tea processing yard and earned the certificate of Primary Agricultural Products Processing Yards under the guidance of the Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government. He said happily that his tea processing yard is like a global village in which processing equipment comes from Japan, Germany, Israel, China, and other countries. In addition to the introduction of automation equipment, to respond to the different preferences of various tea markets, he used his experience learned from the Hawaii University of the United States to modify the processing equipment process and transform his processing equipment. Shao said that when he chose to start an agriculture business, he almost started from zero. He can achieve today’s results by devoting himself to this industry and thanks to all assistance from various parties. Now that he has the registration certificate from the processing yard, he plans to use tea leaves or tea stems to develop related tea by-products and increase the value of the products.

The Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government stated that the most challenging process in promoting organic agriculture is to grow from nothing. The Agriculture Department seeks farmers willing to engage in organic agriculture; the Agriculture Department will assist in matchmaking counseling and verification and provides subsidies such as materials and facilities, hoping to implement the sustainable development of the environment and ecology. New Taipei City Government encourages youth and farmers to dedicate themselves to organic farming. Farmers’ Associations can provide land leasing, verification, organic fertilizers, machinery, and greenhouse facilities, to reduce the burden on farmers. Citizens who want to taste organic tea, don’t hesitate to contact New Taipei City Farmers’ Association’s online e-shopping website: Country U Box.
