The Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government is committed to promoting the “Youth Returning to Rural Community” policy. Yu-Hao Lin, a young man from Yinhe Community Xindian District, returned to his hometown recently to dedicate himself to the community and joined promoting rural construction, hoping to attract more young people to return to rural communities and bring vitality.
The Community Xindian District has been one of the rural regeneration communities accompanied by the Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government for a long time. The rich ecological landscape in the community is a unique natural advantage of the community. Li-Kung Lin, the chairman of Yinhe Community, bought the farmland in the community 30 years ago because of his genuine love of being close to nature. After retirement, he unexpectedly joined Yinhe Community, becoming an essential role in community development, successfully drove the community to replant a hectare of water terraces, assisted the community in creating the overall environment, built a community landscape platform and an ecotourism point, and improved the community’s vulnerability to rain.
Yu-Hao Lin, son of Chairman Li-Kung Lin, was inspired by his father’s enthusiasm, resolutely put down his career as a barista in the city for more than ten years, and returned to the community. Yu-Hao Lin used the specialty he learned in the coffee industry in the past to plan to plant coffee trees on community terraces. Currently, he is in the process of developing coffee saplings, picking coffee beans, roasting beans, and hand brew coffee. In the future, he will launch a series of coffee farming experiences in conjunction with community activities. Yu-Hao Lin hopes his first move can lead more young people to return to their hometowns or stay in the agricultural business, bringing innovation and vitality to the local areas.
Wen Lee, the Commissioner of Agriculture Department, said that the “Youth Returning to Rural Community” policy can inject new energy and creativity into rural regeneration communities and can more comprehensively connect the cultural and natural characteristics of the community, make the development of the community keep pace with the times, and create more development vitality for the community. The Agriculture Department will continue to invest in related resources such as curriculum counseling, observation and exchange of agricultural enterprises, project counseling, and marketing channel media to create an excellent industrial environment and interest more young people in farming, which might become the driving force for the transformation of agricultural communities and industrial upgrading.
