Mother and Son make Lingzhi Dumplings — a New Taipei City’s Agricultural Product

The Agriculture Department of New Taipei City Government and Farmers’ Association of Shiding District mentored the Home Economics training course members. On Mother’s day, they launched the “Lingzhi Yuanbao dumpling” and “Lingzhi bamboo shoot Yuanbao dumpling.” Course members developed these products: Jia-Hou Yeh of Dream Book House and his mother, Huei-Feng Lee. They used local green bamboo shoots, Iberico ham, shallot, and mushrooms to make healthy cuisine, and they could be delivered home. (*Lngzhi: Ganoderma lucidum, reishi mushroom)

Farmers’ Association of Shiding District mentored the Home Economics training course members to run Tian Mama Cuisine Restaurants and invested in upgrading kitchen equipment and training guide volunteers last year. This year, it is expected to combine accessible travel experiences to develop the business of Regional Revitalization in Shiding. However, since the beginning of the year, the epidemic has dramatically affected the number of visitors. The Agriculture Department and the Farmers’ Association of Shiding District have assisted the training course members in gathering restaurant workforce and transforming to create new business opportunities for epidemic prevention; excellent food materials from villages along Shenkeng, Shiding, and Pingxi, for example, Lingzhi, mushrooms, green bamboo shoots, Shenkeng Iberico Ham and Pingxi shallot, are connected as series to develop and produce into frozen dumplings (commonly known as “Yuanbao” in Chinese). People can easily enjoy healthy and delicious New Taipei City agricultural products at home through the hotel channel and the frozen logistics system.

Jia-Hou Yeh, the owner of Dream Book House, said that to operate the bookstore sustainably, 10% of the profit from growing mushrooms would be allocated as the sustainable development cost of the Dream Book House to provide a good reading environment for local school children. Jia-Hou Yeh is glad to own the opportunity to participate in the product development of dumplings with his mother this time. Through this opportunity, small-scale farmers in New Taipei City can offer high-quality ingredients for everyone to eat and allow the rural areas to unite and cooperate to overcome the epidemic. Shu-Huei Hsu, director of the Farmers’ Association of Shiding District, said that the local Home Economics training course members are very interested and willing to unite to turn the crisis into a turning point. The Agriculture Department and the farmers will continue to invest resources to upgrade processing and refrigeration equipment, improve the local agricultural industry value, and look for business opportunities.

The Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government claimed that these behaviors would help connect small-scale farmers and local resources, help them with new business opportunities in the zero-contact economy, build agricultural industries in rural areas, and promote agriculture. To taste “Lingzhi Yuanbao dumplings” and “Lingzhi bamboo shoot Yuanbao dumplings,” don’t hesitate to contact Shiding home economics courses for the order form.
