Affected by COVID-19, people often avoid gathering in restaurants to eat out, and the consumption habits of Taiwanese people have changed. The Center of Excellence for Intelligent Organic Marketing in Asia (CEIOMA), organized by the Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government, is promoting the “Eco-friendly Contractual Farming Affiliate Platform” for people to order organic or eco-friendly agricultural products online. Cai Tian Eco-Friendly Farming and other organizations have joined the platform.
Commissioner Wen Lee of the Agriculture Department stated that New Taipei City Government has been promoting the “Eco-friendly Regional Plans in Rural Areas” since 2015, combining the concepts of eco-friendly production and environmental protection to guide farmers to transform into eco-friendly farming and organic production, which has received positive responses from all walks of life. Cai Tian Eco-Friendly Farming cooperated with New Taipei City Government in 2016 to help farmers in Jinshan and Wanli Districts produce eco-friendly and pesticide-free fertilizer, “Cai Tian Rice.” In 2019, it was extended to Gongliao District. Thirty-three farmers have joined this program, and the eco-friendly production area has reached 30 hectares. The idea of “Cai Tian Rice” has also been welcomed by enterprises. Acer Foundation has been involved in the subscription program of Cai Tian Rice since 2018, which encourages the public to support small farmers in rural areas through actions. This year, volunteers of Acer Foundation also participated in dibbling rice seedlings, experiencing the hard work of farmers, and cherishing rice more. Today, the eco-friendly farming area of New Taipei City is 227.5 hectares, with 196 eco-friendly farmers producing rice, tea, green bamboo shoots, yams, seasonal vegetables, and other crops. The future goal is to extend the Eco-friendly Regional Plans in Rural Areas to all districts of New Taipei City. The plan of 250 hectares is expected to be reached by the end of this year, and an eco-friendlier New Taipei will be built.
The Agriculture Department said that the contract between Cai Tian Eco-Friendly Farming and farmers shares the same concept of “Access to Markets: A Road to Sustainability,” that farmers do not have to worry about sales problems.
