Made with organic vegetables from Li-Shin Organic Farm located in Shimen District, Northern Coast of New Taipei City, the taste is gorgeous and brings people health. Li-Shin Organic Farm produces baby carrots, colorful and cute in appearance, crisp and sweet in flavor, and the whole plant can be eaten. Baby carrots from Li-Shin Organic Farm match perfectly with Taiwanese spring rolls, suitable for the occasion of Spring.

Fu-Sheng Gau, a farm owner born in 1963, used to be engaged in machinery-related industries. In 2015, his mother had terminal cancer. To take care of her nearby, Fu-Sheng Gau gave up his stable job and returned to his hometown in Shihmen. When he returned home, he often heard his mother complain that the farmland at home was uncultivated. Fu-Sheng Gau devoted himself to organic farming and continued his mother’s philosophy of being a farmer as a comfort to his mother. The growing and production model worked initially; vegetables were of good quality and had high production in the first year but suffered from insect pests and climate change in the coming year. Fu-Sheng Gau overcame various failures and exchanged ideas with nearby organic farmers, then accumulated his own experience and developed his unique growing model. Li-Shin Organic Farm formally obtained organic verification in 2018. Now the farm scale has been expanded to about 1.2 acres. Vegetables produced by Li-Shin Organic Farm supply the elementary schools’ school lunches in Shihmen District and provide online ordering services.

Because of Fu-Sheng Gau’s insistence on organic, the water in the ditches of Li-Shin Organic Farm is clear, and organisms often come to the land to breed. Tadpoles, butterflies, and insects are often seen here. Fu-Sheng Gau said that the weather in Shihmen is very unpredictable. There is no special secret for planting organic vegetables in a changing environment. We can only find the growing method that adapts to local conditions by accumulating experience and adhering to the organic concept.

The Agriculture Department of the New Taipei City Government stated that most Taiwanese spring roll often chooses fresh, colorful, and fiber-rich vegetables as materials. Organic vegetables, for example, cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots, etc., from New Taipei City are the best choice. To promote the supply of organic vegetables for school lunches in elementary and high schools in New Taipei City, the Agriculture Department continues to guide farmers to apply for organic verification. The most challenging process in the promotion is organic is to start from scratch. The Agriculture Department also provides subsidies for materials, production facilities, etc., hoping to implement the sustainable development of the environment and ecology, which can reduce the production cost of farmers. New Taipei City Government encourages young people and farmers to join the organic agricultural industry. It can apply from Farmers’ Associations for land lease, verification, organic fertilizer, machinery, greenhouse facilities, and other subsidies to reduce the burden on farmers.
