The First Taiwan TAGs Organic Tea Selection will be held in New Taipei City, hosted by the New Taipei City Government and the Council of Agriculture’s Tea Research and Extension Station. Registration is open now until April 7. There are two groups: strip-type and ball-type Paochong tea. All organic farmers are invited to participate.

With the implementation of the Organic Agriculture Promotion Act, the number of countries globally recognizing the equivalence of Taiwan’s organic certification has increased year by year. New Taipei City Government and the Tea Research and Extension Station responded that 2020 is the first year of Taiwan Organic Tea, working together to hold the First Taiwan TAGs Organic Tea Award 2020 (TAGs, Taiwan-tea Assortment & Grading system). This event can gather the best organic tea farmers in Taiwan, exchange tea planting experiences, select the first Taiwan TAGs Organic Tea Award Champion, and establish a standard brand image together. The Taiwan TAGs Organic Tea Selection set two groups: strip-type and ball-type Paochong tea. Representatives from industry, officials, and university fields will judge and choose high-quality tea products close to consumers’ tastes. Finalists of the Taiwan TAGs Organic Tea Selection will be well-packed with elegantly designed packing and a special card explaining the Taiwan Specialty Teas Flavor Wheel placed in the tea can, with words describing the aroma and taste of organic tea.

The Director of the Council of Agriculture’s Tea Research and Extension Station, Tsung-Chen Su, said that the New Taipei City Government has held Organic Tea Selections since 2017 with outstanding results. New Taipei City Government was selected to carry the first Taiwan Organic Tea Selection this year. In combination with the three new Taiwan Specialty Teas Flavor Wheel this year — fragrant strip type Paochong tea flavor wheel, heavy Roasting ball type oolong tea flavor wheel, and Taiwan black tea flavor wheel; the complex color and flavor of various tea soups were distinguished in the form of flavor wheels, for customers can choose their favorite. The Tea Research and Extension Station, to have the first Taiwan TAGs Organic Tea Selection by combining the Taiwan Specialty Teas Flavor Wheel and have suggestions and evaluations from industry, officials, and university judges, become a significant milestone for Taiwan’s organic tea.

Wen Lee, the Commissioner of the Agriculture Department, said that this year’s Taiwan Organic Tea Selection was upgraded from New Taipei City to the whole country and strip-type Paochong tea and ball-type Oolong tea as one group.
