Food Testing Laboratory in SGS Taiwan Ltd. | Processes and operations of testing |
[New Taipei City News] Many farmers and producers choose to apply for agricultural law certification or independent inspection, facing consumers who are increasingly concerned about food safety. But farmers often ask questions like “Why did the inspection result in pesticide residues still positive even though I did not use pesticides?” or “I use the same materials, but why did the last inspection result end with no pesticide but positive this time?” What can farmers do to choose practical certification and inspection methods and provide safe agricultural products to consumers?
The IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum, which will be held on March 29 (Friday), invited Marco Schlüter, International Development Manager of Naturland e. V., and Shih-Chung (David) Huang, Director-Taiwan & Eastern Asia Region of SGS Taiwan Ltd., have extensive experience assisting farmers in passing pesticide certification and inspection as speakers. One of Marco Schlüter’s main tasks in Naturland Germany (Bund Ö kologischer Lebensmittelwirtschaft, BÖ LW, is the organic certification association) is to assist small-scale farmers in clarifying the sales inspection regulations in different countries within the EU and abroad and to guide farmers to obtain international certification so that products can sell internationally within Naturland’s platform. SGS Taiwan Ltd. is the most extensive international food inspection and verification unit in Taiwan and the best promoter of Taiwan’s agricultural products and foods to domestic and foreign markets. SGS provides various inspection programs that comply with domestic and foreign health standards and offers an online platform — SGS’s e-certification service — for manufacturers who are careful to implement independent inspection checks. This platform publicly discloses SGS pesticide residue inspection results, strengthening farming production and trust between buyers and sellers. To provide testing services and to consult that meet Taiwan’s health regulations and standards, SGS also assist farmers in clarifying the health standards and other information that agricultural products must meet in different countries or regions if they need to export to other countries. Two speakers will share the practical experience of Taiwan and Germany in the forum; participants and producers can understand that the safe supply of agricultural products to consumers is the only method to keep up with the international trend of sustainable agricultural development.
The forum organizer will arrange a two-day tour for all participants to visit organic organizations, including SGS Taiwan’s laboratory. Participants can understand more details and the process of inspection. SGS Taiwan Ltd. also provides 20 quotas of 374 Pesticide Residues Tests for Taiwanese participants of the IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum. If the test results meet Taiwan’s health standards, their products can also apply for publication on the SGS’s e-certification service platform as well.
IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum also has many international and Taiwanese speakers in organic agriculture, sharing their diverse perspectives from production to access, agricultural practices to policy.
