Only 25 representatives were selected from 100 applicants
[New Taipei City News] After interviews in February, the final participants of the 4th IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum have been released today (March 20). With an admission rate of 12%, a total of candidates were selected. A total of 25 Taiwanese representatives and 22 international members will participate in the 6-day IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum.
The second-round interview opened for sign-up on February 25 and ended on March 8. A total of 80 people signed up. After two days of interviews to examine the candidates’ English ability and organic expertise knowledge, ten candidates were officially admitted as the first Taiwan representatives of the IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum.
Many candidates own rich backgrounds of studying abroad and working experience. For example, Hsin-Hua Lin, a Kaohsiung Farmers League member also a supplier of New Taipei City School Lunches, majored in the Department of International Business Management, was engaged in investment promotion work, and often held meetings with foreign people. Because of her husband’s enthusiasm toward organic farming, she gave up her career to become a farmer. Based on the traditional sprouts left by the family business, they transformed into organic agriculture and successfully launched the organic sprouts brand. Yi Liu from Hsinchu is influenced by his parent’s eco-friendly concept, now cooperating with a Rice-Duck Farm with his parents. Weeds are not easy to grow when ducks move around, and the agricultural pest, Pomacea canaliculata, can become a food source for ducks, making the farm in harmony between organisms and the environment. Besides farming, he transformed their farm into a classroom. He became a food agriculture teacher, leading students from the classroom to the farmland to practice the spirit of food agriculture education with actions.
The IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum is held in Taiwan for the first time. Participants come from all over Taiwan and have diverse experiences. The Forum will become a platform for people who are concerned about organic farming all over the world. The organizer also released 200 places for the public, and the registration was completed within three days. The Agriculture Department will reconfirm the attendance of the applicants and call for candidates on the waiting list.
