Major Yu-Ih Hou and Tzu-Miao Lin promote Yilan Superior Champion Rice

[New Taipei City News] New Taipei City Government and Yilan County Government worked together to hold the “Yilan Superior Champion Rice Award and Sales Fair” at Far Eastern Department Banqiao Store on December 6, 2020. Superior Champion Rices are delivered to New Taipei City. Mayor Yu-Ih Hou of New Taipei City and Majoy Tzu-Miao Lin of Yilan County praised the farmers who won the prize in this year’s Yilan Superior Champion Rice, and turned into auctioneers, heating the bidding atmosphere, driving the buying interest at the exhibition and sales venue, and promoting Yilan County’s Champion Rices to New Taipei Citizens.

This year, the First Prize of Yilan Superior Champion Rice is Yao-Yi Lan from Jhuangwei Township. Mr. Lan has been planting rice in Jhuangwei Township for 30 years and has extensive experience in each rice growth stage. Matching the farming-retirement seasonal mode according to Yilan County’s policy, his rice grows with fertile soil and the concept of sustainable management and strict attitude. Mr. Lan is currently the director of the Yilan County Rice Seedling Association and the Li-Ming Eco-Friendly Agriculture Promotion and Production Cooperative chairman. He will continue to adhere to the concept of high-quality rice to refine cultivation technology, and follow the regulation with Yilan County Farming Certification Mark to establish a safe brand image, protect consumers, and sell the best quality, safest, and most tasty Yilan rice.

Major Lin expressed her gratitude to Far Eastern Department for providing the venue for the “Yilan Superior Champion Rice Award and Sales Fair.” He thanked New Taipei City Government for its assistance so that the Superior Champion Rice could be sold and exposed in Taipei. Rice is the largest agricultural crop in Yilan County. The quality of Yilan Rice is particularly delicate and has a unique taste. The “Yilan Superior Champion Rice Award” has been held for the third year this year. To encourage participating farmers to produce more high-quality Yilan rice, the total prize money of the competition has been increased from NT$300,000 to NT$600,000, of which the champion prize money has been increased from NT$150,000 to NT$300,000. We hope to promote Yilan rice as the best rice in Taiwan by expanding the award prize.
Major Hou said that New Taipei City is the essential consumption place in Taiwan, with a population of 4 million; therefore, the Government launched the Center of Excellence for Intelligent Organic Marketing in Asia (CEIOMA), which is responsible for the marketing of organic and friendly agricultural products and the international exchange of organic agriculture. It also started the Eco-friendly Contractual Farming Affiliate Platform and invited all townships in New Taipei City to promote organic-friendly agricultural products jointly. The exchange of marketing experience across counties and cities conveys the concept of environmentally friendly farming and expands the scale of publicity. Yilan rice was jointly marketed with the Yilan County Government, and the “Yilan Superior Champion Rice Award and Sales Fair” was moved to New Taipei City for the first time; New Taipei City will also join Yilan Green Expo next year to introduce agricultural products from New Taipei City to Yilan citizens and people all over Taiwan.
